Upgraded Scolty paths re-open

Forest Enterprise Scotland’s team in Aberdeenshire have completed a £10K project to upgrade and repair paths in Scolty Woods, near Banchory.

The paths, which had suffered the effects of repeated heavy rain fall have been re-surfaced and are now ready for visitors trekking up to the tower on top of the hill.

Recreation Forester Dan Cadle said;

"The red and yellow trails in Scolty and a couple of paths up to the tower were in a pretty poor condition following repeated heavy rain – as well as a lot of footfall.

“We have been busy improving the drainage and, together with a bit of attention to the surfaces, the paths are now in a better condition and better able to cope with surface water run-off in the future.

“Path access is now open again seven days a week and we hope that locals and visitors alike will take advantage of the opportunity to take to the trails.”

Scolty Wood, a very busy woodland near Banchory in Aberdeenshire, provides trails through relaxing larch and pine woodland.

There are also routes to the top of the hill and the tower – a monument to General Burnett who fought alongside the Duke of Wellington – and the panoramic views over Royal Deeside and the Grampian Mountains.
