Views wanted on Upper Nithsdale forests

Forest Enterprise Scotland is looking for views on a 10 year Land Management Plan for forests in the Upper Nithsdale area.

The Plan is an important document which will help shape the long-term future of Cairnhead, Shinnelhead, Polskeoch, Euchanhead and Corserig forests.

To help explain the proposals and to get feedback from the public, two drop-in events are being held.

The first is on Monday 26th June at Moniaive Memorial Hall and the other on Wednesday 28th June at Kirkconnel Miners Memorial Hall.  Both drop-in days are held between 6pm – 8pm with a presentation starting at 6.30pm.

Robin Fuller, Planning Forester with Forest Enterprise Scotland said:

“We are keen to hear from as many people as possible on our proposed Land Management Plan.

“It is our intention to ensure that these forests continue to play a key role in producing a stable supply of softwood timber to the processing industry.

“Our design plans for the forest landscape will also enhance the experience for walkers on the Southern Upland Way, and those visiting the iconic ‘Striding Arches’.  Added to this, we feel it is important to protect and enhance habitats including calcareous grassland and mires as well as expanding native woodland.

“Forest Enterprise Scotland would welcome all views and will be very happy to speak to people in detail at the drop-in events – please come along and find out more.”
