UN International Day of Forests Event

Forestry Commission Scotland, All In For Parkhead and Parkhead Youth Project are encouraging the local community to join them to celebrate UN International Day of Forests at Whitby Street Woodland on 20th March, 12- 4pm.

Forestry Commission Scotland is providing the funding for the event through its Volunteer Community Champion programme, an initiative that trains minority groups to lead events in their local woodlands.

Everyone can get involved in the many activities organised for UN International Day of Forests, which includes: outdoor play, den building, natural arts and crafts, outdoor cooking, natural music making and face painting.

Romena Huq, Forestry Commission Scotland, said:

“The International Day of Forests event will hopefully encourage outdoor activities, such as developing forest schools with local primary schools and hosting community events.

“Everyone is welcome to join us for an international celebration of our forests. We hope that this will encourage communities to visit their local woodland in the future, whether it be for a quiet walk or group activities.”

All In for Parkhead and Parkhead Youth Project have support from Community Safety Glasgow, Thriving Place, Parkhead Housing Association and the Glasgow Homeless Network to deliver the event.

All in for Parkhead aim to improve the lives of people in Parkhead and want to encourage the public to get involved in their local community. Parkhead Youth Project’s intention is to improve young people’s quality of life and encourage them to contribute positively to their local area.
