Paths make easier access to Foggieton Woods

Local residents in Cults and Bieldside can now enjoy their local woodlands much more thanks to some path restoration work by Forest Enterprise Scotland’s Aberdeenshire team.

Core paths 54 and 55, which join the communities to Foggieton Woods, just west of Aberdeen, have been resurfaced to provide a firmer, safer access for all visitors.

Carried out in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, the works were co-funded by Aberdeen Greenspace Trust which contributed £40,000.

Neil Taylor, the FES Communities and Recreation Ranger said;

“These two core paths have always been really well used but the paths tended to get a bit waterlogged and muddy.

“Understandably, that put a lot of people off using them or would make a trip to the woods a bit of a messy experience.

“However, we’ve now completed a 1.5 km path rebuild to improve the surface and drainage of the existing paths dramatically.

“It’s now much more accessible for people of all abilities and is suitable for bikes, buggies and wheelchairs, as well as walkers.”

To reach Foggietown Woods from the A93 from Aberdeen, turn right (north) at the Bieldside junction and continue on for 1¼ miles (2 km) to reach the forest car park.

From the A944 turn left (south) at the Kingswells roundabout, follow the unclassified road until a T-junction. Turn right, then first left to reach the car park (about 2 miles / 3 km from the roundabout).

The car park entrance is at grid reference NJ 868 039.
