Celebrate Local Nature Reserves Day

Join Forest Enterprise Scotland and the Glasgow Countryside Rangers for the Garscadden Wood Local Nature Reserve (LNR) celebration this weekend.

Taking place on Saturday (25th August) from 12.30pm to 3pm, the fun, free event, open to all ages, will give adults and children the opportunity to learn all about their LNR.

Family activities include animal athletics, insect hunts, as well as a chance to learn about a special conservation project that will involve the removal of an invasive species within the woodland. There will also be an opportunity to help improve an area of the woodland where local nurseries participate in outdoor learning.

Derek Shannan, community ranger at Forest Enterprise Scotland, said: “The schools might be back, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. We have a full schedule of woodland events running across the Central Belt up until Christmas. They are a great way to get families outdoors and learn more about the environment we live in.

“We have so many nature reserves and green spaces in Scotland, but people are unsure of why they exist and what benefits they can provide. We’re here to make sure people have a better understanding of nature reserves and what’s available to make use of on our doorstep.”

Owned by Glasgow City Council and managed by Forest Enterprise Scotland, Garscadden Wood LNR now has improved trails across Drumchapel Woods to create more green spaces for people and wildlife in the city to enjoy.

Event Details:
Date: Saturday 25 August, 12.30pm – 3pm
Location: Garscadden Wood, Glasgow, G15 7LG (Drummore Road entrance)
