The Loch Sunart land management plan area is on the north shore of the Loch Sunart and is made up of seven separate woodlands from Dun Ghallian 6.5Km west of Salen village, to Camuschoirk 10.5Km east of the village.

The area was acquired in separate purchases from the 1940s through to the 1960s and was originally established for the purpose of growing commercial conifers such as Sitka Spruce, Norway Spruce, Larch and Lodgepole Pine. Felling of the original crop commenced in the 1990s and has continued to the present day.
