Vandals threatening other people’s safety

Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES) staff are appealing for information after potentially life-saving safety barriers were removed by vandals.

The barriers – in the popular Ladyhills Woods near Aberdeen – had been put in place on a recently upgraded trail where it joins a busy public road. They had already been replaced following a similar incident last month.

Dan Cadle, Communities & Visitor Services manager for the local FES team said;

“We were really dismayed to find that the barriers had been removed again.

“They were an important safety feature at a critical junction with Kirk Brae (Cults), which is a very busy road, and were there to slow people down so that they didn’t end up running out on to the road.

“This is wanton vandalism of the worst kind because it is putting other people’s lives at risk.”

The barriers allowed continued access for other forest visitors – including walkers, cyclists, horse riders and families with push chairs - but prevented access for quad bikes and off road vehicles.

Dan added;

“This matter has been reported to the police and anyone who has any further information on this should pass it to the police on their non-emergency number – 101.”
