Road closure opens up Countesswells alternatives

Some visitors to Countesswells Woods near Aberdeen might need to go to other local woodlands from Monday 8 August to December - thanks to the closure of a main access road.

Forest Enterprise Scotland is warning that the Cults to Kingswells road will be closed by Aberdeen City Council as work begins on building the new Countesswells housing development.

From 8th August to 30th September: Access to Countesswells Woods is only available from the North from Kingswells roundabout.

From 1st October to end December access is only available from the south from Cults, Baillieswells Road, Kirk Brae and Ladyhill Road.

During these times, visitors may find it easier to visit Foggieton and Tyrebagger Woods.

Tyrebagger is just off the A96 on the B979 (signposted for Kirkton of Skene) between the Dyce and Blackburn roundabouts. The Aberdeen to Inverurie bus service (Service 37) also passes nearby. Tyrebagger is a tranquil, mature forest and its Beech Tree Trail is ideal for toddlers and anyone pushing a buggy. Longer routes connect the forest with four hills around Aberdeen.

Foggieton Wood, which has two waymarked trails, lies west of Aberdeen just off the A93 (turn right [north] at the Bieldside junction beside the church). It can also be reached from the A944, turning left at the Kingswells roundabout: follow the unclassified road until a T-junction, turn right, then first left.

Access will be restricted to Countesswells for a 4 month period from 8th August.   Issues with regard to the road closure should be taken up with the council.
