The Forest Enterprise Team at the Lodge Forest Visitor Centre

Forest Enterprise Scotland’s visitor centre in Queen Elizabeth Forest ParkThe Lodge – has retained its 5 star, visitor attraction status in Visit Scotland’s 2015 Quality Assurance Awards.

The centre began winning praise even before the assessment visit, with its welcoming and informative website serving as a great ‘shop window’.

Liz Walker, Communities and Tourism Manager, said;

“It’s great news! The tourism business is very competitive so having 5-star status is welcome recognition of the fantastic effort that the team has put in over the past few years.

“We’ve worked very hard to achieve this and it’s quite an accomplishment to have that effort rewarded with top marks.

“It’s not only good for us but for local communities and other attractions, too, because people coming to the Lodge will use it as a focal point from where they can further explore the wider area.”

The award assessed a wide range of criteria – from direction signage on the approach to Aberfoyle, the car park, trail accessibility and interpretation, and the centre itself.

The quality of displays and the live camera footage of feeding stations and nests were noted as being excellent and of the highest quality, and the shop and café won plaudits for their design, ambience and quality of experience.

And special mention was made of the friendliness of the welcome.

Liz added:

“There is always a need to keep moving forward so we won’t be resting on our laurels and we’ll focus now on how we can make a Lodge visit even more special.”
