From the majestic golden eagle to the specialist crossbill, some of Scotland’s favourite birds make their home on the National Forest Estate. In fact, more than 100 different species have been found in one forest area alone.
The land we look after provides many different habitats – they all require different approaches to create the best conditions for birds.
For example, we plan our work to cause the least disruption to breeding birds, including goshawk and osprey. We’re also careful to leave stumps and standing trees for many different species to nest in. Elsewhere, we’re improving areas of open ground to encourage birds such as black grouse.
And because we know that helping people appreciate our stunning birdlife is a vital part of conservation, we provide some great wildlife viewing sites across the country too.
