Much of the work undertaken on the National Forest Estate is carried out by small to medium enterprises or micro-businesses. Contracts can supports all areas of our business, including:

  • Land management, including operations such as ground preparation, planting, fencing and forest road building
  • Community and visitor services such as recreational path building and survey work
  • Business support services and goods from office cleaning or training to stationery and fleet

How can I provide goods, services and works?

You can find details of our tendering opportunities at Public Contracts Scotland (PCS). Search for 'Forestry Commission' in the 'Search for Buyers' tab.

You can register on the PCS website for free. It provides access to numerous public sector contract opportunities across Scotland. Read more about how to register with PCS in our Supplier Guidance (PDF 6.3MB).

Additional information for Scottish SMEs or third sector organisations interested in working with the public sector can be found on the Supplier Development Scotland website.

How does Forest Enterprise Scotland manage contract opportunities?

We advertise all contract opportunities through the Public Contracts Scotland website. However, tenders worth over £50,000 for goods and services, or over £250,000 for works, will be processed through the PCS-Tender system. Find out more in our PCS-Tender Guidance (PDF 6.5MB).

We also use the PCS Quick Quote facility to invite quotes for low value goods, works and services. However we can only invite those that are registered on the Public Contracts Scotland website.

We have a number of standard sets of terms and conditions of contract. For works contracts we primarily use industry standard contracts such as NEC3. All of our conditions can be tailored if a specific contract requires it, and for more complex contracts we may use alternative/bespoke contracts.

You can read more about our approach to procurement in our Organisational Procurement Strategy (PDF 365KB).
